U.G.L.Y Child is a double entendre. One meaning refers to the ways in which children of color are perceived by the rest of society as a result of afro-phobia in the western world. The second meaning is an acronym created from the letters U.G.L.Y which stands for Uniquely Gifted and Lonely Youth. Structurally based on the Four Noble Truths of Buddhism, each section of this 2-Act production represents an abstraction of the aforementioned truths via sound & movement inspired by the literary works of artists such as Amiri Baraka, Sonia Sanchez, Wade Rogers, and more. In summary, this production is a reflection of an artistic investigation into a particular subject matter, that subsequently resulted in an illustration of how socio-cultural oppression has impacted the dynamics of race and class in America.

The Art In Color Pop-Up Shop will showcase original designs from local fashion brands such as Casquette Co., Heart of Hoodie, & HAUS de LAVON. You don't want to miss these custom designs in this exclusive, one-time only immersive pop up shop. In totality, this celebration of urban creativity will act as a representation of our collective efforts to promote cultural preservation and artistic expression within our local community.
